Is CompTIA SecurityX the same as CASP+?
Yes. SecurityX is the rebranded successor to CASP+. CompTIA introduced it in December 2024 and retired the old CASP+ exam, CAS-004, in June 2025. Anyone who already held CASP+ received the SecurityX badge automatically, with no retesting. New candidates now take the CAS-005 exam under the SecurityX name.
What is the SecurityX exam code?
AS-005. It replaced CAS-004.
How long is the exam, and how many questions?
Up to 90 questions, a mix of multiple-choice and performance-based questions, in 165 minutes. It is scored pass or fail, with no scaled score published.
Do I need work experience to take SecurityX?
There is no formal experience requirement to become certified. CompTIA recommends around ten years of IT experience including at least five in hands-on security, and suggests Security+, CySA+, and PenTest+ as a lead-in, but that is guidance rather than a gate. You earn the certification by passing the exam. This is a key difference from CISSP, CISM, and CISA, which all require documented, verified experience.
Can I take the SecurityX exam online?
Yes. It is delivered through Pearson VUE, either with online proctoring from home or at a test center.
What are the four exam domains?
Governance, Risk, and Compliance (20%), Security Architecture (27%), Security Engineering (31%), and Security Operations (22%). Engineering and Architecture together make up the majority of the exam. See the four domains explained for a full breakdown.
What is the difference between CertMaster Learn, Labs, and Perform?
CertMaster Learn is the self-paced course, with instructional content, videos, and simulation-based labs. CertMaster Labs adds hands-on practice on live virtual machines. CertMaster Perform is the all-in-one product that combines both natively in a single course, replacing the older Integrated Learn and Labs bundle.
What is the difference between the standard voucher and the retake voucher?
The standard exam voucher covers one attempt. The voucher with retake bundles a second attempt: if you do not pass the first time, you can sit the same exam once more on the same voucher before it expires.
How long is a voucher valid?
Vouchers are valid for a set period from the date of issue and cannot be extended, so schedule your exam with time to spare. The exact term is shown on the product page.
Is SecurityX approved for DoD 8140 / 8570?
Yes. SecurityX is approved by the U.S. Department of Defense to meet directive 8140/8570.01-M requirements, which is why it appears in many defense and government contracting role requirements.
How does SecurityX compare to CISSP?
SecurityX is a hands-on, technical credential with no experience gate to certify. CISSP is a broader, management-oriented credential that requires verified experience. They suit different roles, and many practitioners hold both. See SecurityX vs CISSP for the full comparison.
